Nurses and other health care workers staged a lunchtime protest at the Green Wrythe Lane Clinic on Tuesday April 1st in protest at the Goverment's decision to ignore NHS pay review body, and impose a freeze on all staff due an increment and a 1% non-consolidated award to the rest - meaning two thirds of NHS staff will endure a pay freeze this year. The staff are very angry at this and the announcement that this will be imposed next year too, unless staff give up unsocial hour payments and increments. Cost of living rises will mean NHS staff have by 2017 endured 6 years of effective pay cuts. Linda Perks, UNISON Regional Secretary in Greater London, said: "After five years of pay freeze and pay restraint our members are saying ‘enough is enough, Our members are really struggling to make ends meet, to pay the rent and put food on the table for their children.”
The staff at Green Wrythe Lane Clinic recieved a lot of support from patients and the public who believe health staff should be treated better.
