On Saturday morning Get Sutton Cycling, the Sutton branch of the London Cycling Campaign, will be holding a family bike ride from Sutton to Cheam and back. The ride will highlight the need for good cycling infrastructure in the borough, and is due to be supported by cyclists from across the borough.

Ride organiser Chris Rutland said "For many years local politicians have been highlighting their support for cycling, but so far spending on infrastructure has been largely inadequate and ineffectual. The consequences of this is that the number of vehicles in the borough is ever increasing, and our roads are over-congested to point that people do not feel it is safe to cycle. We have had Cycling Proficiency training, and more recently Bikeability, but it is clear that training simply isn't enough to increase cycling levels. The time has come to create Space for Cycling, to make our streets feel safe and inviting so that everyone can cycle. This ride will show prospective councillors that the London Cycling Campaign's Space for Cycling has real support, and that the need for good infrastructure is long overdue."

The ride is open to anybody who can cycle, and will start at 11am from Waterstones on Sutton High Street on Saturday 3rd May. Email getsuttoncycling@gmail.com for more information.
