The Sutton Annual Open Art Exhibition which has taken place for over 60 years, organised by the Sutton Arts Council (now Arts Network Sutton) continues until Saturday 24th May in the Europa Gallery at Sutton Library.

The quality and quantity of work submitted this year exceeded all expectations. This enabled us to carry out a much more rigorous selection process resulting in approximately 200 works on display from over 250 entries (compared with only 90 last year).

The exhibition is truly first class.

Perhaps because nowadays, as there are more fit and able retired people, local art groups have flourished and hold their own shows and the Sutton Exhibition was being forgotten.

Two years ago I, as a participating artist, suggested that we try to raise the standard and profile of the exhibition and was invited to join the Sutton Arts Council Executive.

We have now been able to involve several more fairly local art groups and their input has been invigorating.
