Following the regional Festival of Music for Youth that took place in the Fairfield Halls last March, Two groups from Homefield Preparatory School Sutton, were selected to participate in the National event in Birmingham. The six members of the Composers Ensemble performed a piece that they had written for themselves in Symphony Hall on Wednesday 9th July and the Trio performed a three movement work by Tomasini in the Birmingham Conservatoire Recital Hall on Thursday 10th July. The Composers Ensemble (2 Trumpets, Clarinet, Cello, Xylophone & Piano) was awarded a special certificate for innovation and the Trio were awarded a special certificate for performance practice. The award for the trio (Clarinet, violin & cello) was a particular surprise, as the boys were the youngest players in this under 18 section.
