My vague memory of the moment is grave. The atmosphere was sombre and its patronizing presence paced around us. We were all crying except...him. He stood by the door with a giant suitcase standing by his side.

24%of the children in the UK are bought up by single parents, making us the fourth highest in the EU. Out of the 1.8 million sing parent households, 650,000 of them, are unemployed and face great financial struggles than the average two parent household.

The reason I admire my mother is due to the fact that even after being harshly abandoned, she put herself aside and made us her main priority never failing to provide. Despite her going through the most obnoxious period of her life, her distraught emotions were never exposed nor a single tear was shed. As a result of her sheer hard work, she has inspired me to write about my life living under the care and nurture of a single parent.

Having little to no memories of living with my father, has suprisingly made me into a better human being, as I am able to appreciate and value the existence of my mother immensely. Not being able to celebrate father's day has not done me any bother however simple things have for sure affected certain aspects of my life. Watching my friends having the luxury to turn to the other parent, while one is busy or receiving loving support from both figures, are some elements that affect me. However, it does not make the love and support given by my mother seem any less precious.
