Paralympic gold-winning medallist David Weir helped Devonshire Primary School celebrate the opening of three new classrooms last Friday.
The new classrooms are not only environmentally friendly and wheelchair accessible but also have new group rooms, new toilets, staircase and a lift.
The new layout also means there is more space in the playground for the children to play in.
Martin Kearsey, Devonshire head teacher, said: “I’m delighted that David Weir could join us to celebrate the opening of the new classrooms.
“It’s wonderful that our children and staff now have new learning rooms which reflect the high standards we strive for at Devonshire.
Councillor Tony Brett Young, executive member for young people, said: “The new classrooms are light and bright and will provide the perfect conditions for the students to study in.”
